I received a bachelor’s degree in Law and Justice from Central Washington University, completing my studies in just over two and a half years. While attending school, I also worked full time as an investigative trainee with the U.S. Department of Commerce in the Seattle office of NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement. Upon receiving my degree, I became an enforcement officer with NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement and relocated to the East Coast.

As a federal enforcement officer, I conducted civil and criminal investigations in the fishing industry and around marine mammals for the federal government. I operated as the only enforcement officer for New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut.

After several years in this role, I separated from NOAA and returned to Seattle. I created Rain City Investigations to continue assisting the public with my investigations expertise.

I also support my community as a volunteer with local organizations focused on wildlife and environmental conservation. My experience in natural resources, fisheries enforcement, and maritime conservation supports me as an informal educator and advocate for conservation actions, which also lead to healthier, engaged, and more sustainable communities.

Operations Director
Elisabeth Van Every

I have an extensive background in communications, customer service, research, and analysis. As operations director, my role is to ensure that the day to day needs of the agency run smoothly. I provide client management to ensure that every inquiry and client receives thorough attention to their case needs. I provide investigative support with research and administrative tasks for the lead investigator. And I maintain our communications, from the website to social media to documents and forms. If you’ve seen the 1941 film version of The Maltese Falcon, I’m the Effie to our investigator’s Sam Spade.

I spent many years in the publishing industry, including proofreading, copyediting, writing, document layout, scheduling, and client management. I then shifted to nonprofit work, where I expanded my writing and social media experience and refined my customer service skills. I’ve supported clients at every level, from individual assistance to large and complex corporate customers. And working in the nonprofit realm gave me experience in handling a variety of tasks and the unique needs of a small organization.

I’m a native Seattleite, and working in this role gives me the opportunity to serve and support my home and my community.
